Project format

OMP, the Open Music Project format that Veslate saves.

About OMP

A .omp file is a ZIP of open formats. project.json holds the structure: the timebase, channels, patterns, the playlist and the mixer. assets.json lists the audio, with hashes so moved files can be found again. Patterns are Standard MIDI Files or inline notes, and audio is WAV, FLAC, OGG or MP3. Any tool with a ZIP reader and a JSON reader can open a project.

The specification is licensed CC-BY-4.0 and the reference tooling is MIT, so other software can read and write the format.

Agent skill

A skill for AI agents that work with Veslate projects. It describes the format and the rules that are easy to break, and shows how to inspect, validate, build and edit projects with the tools below.

omp-skill.zip

Claude Code

Unzip the folder omp/ into ~/.claude/skills/:

$ curl -fsSLO https://veslate.com/static/omp/omp-skill.c3eb87499647.zip && unzip omp-skill.zip -d ~/.claude/skills

Other agents can read omp/SKILL.md as plain instructions.

Tools

A Python library and command-line tool that read, write, validate, pack and unpack projects. They include the schemas and the MIT licence.

omp-tools.zip

$ python3 -I scripts/omp_cli.py validate song.omp

The other commands are info, pack and unpack. Python 3.9 or later.

Example

A small project with a multi-part pattern, a playlist, an embedded audio clip, a mixer with inserts and a send, and automation.
